Anyway, as far as sins against gender stereotypes go, I'm guilty on multiple serious counts...
Here goes 10 things that are totally un-manly of me:
Pink shirts, I have, and wear.
Not much of a story behind this, mom forced me to wear them for a while, and nobody hated me for them, then I just got used to them.
- I can cook, even common household food.
Like most gastrosexual males, I prefer to read and try exotic recipes, but when need comes I can make a decent maachher-jhol bhath or roti-sabzee.
- I have no attraction to smokes or booze.
Now this is something only those close to me know well, I smoke much and drink in extremely masculine amounts with friends, colleagues or family... But I consider them only social obligations and neither enjoy nor detest them. By myself, I neither smoke nor drink.
- I am not a sports buff.
I enjoy watching the occasional game of football (which I do love to play though) and tennis, but ask me about standings and tourneys and names and I'm quite clueless, I find cricket utterly boring. I have watched very few of the WC matches, that too in snippets and replays.
- I have a very non-masculine curiosity.
I love collecting information, about everything, including people... Any piece of information that I know exists outside my knowledge bugs me like an itch... One of the favourite ways for my closest friends to irritate me by is to open their mouths to speak and then say 'forget it'.
- There is a stuffed dog that can be found sitting (or sprawling) on my bed.
It can often be found being cuddled by me in sleep. There's a story behind that too. One that does not involve any girls. One which I don't think I'll be sharing right now.
- I'm far more comfortable among females than males.
Blame it on a childhood growing up between four cousin sisters, 0,2,4 and 5 years older than me. Which led to preferring girls over boys for close friends... and the rest is history.
- I have read all of both Harry Potter and Twilight.
The former I found very enjoying and the latter I found passable enough to not hate... The movies are crap though.
- I can often understand women.
Now this is where I am completely inviting flame from both the genders... Yes it's a tall claim to make; but firstly, due to the same reasons as sin #7 and secondly, being fascinated by women to the point of researching them thoroughly - understanding comes naturally.
- I don't have a straightforward mind.
Manly men are supposed to have no convolutions in their psyche, they speak their heart and are completely honest, they have only primal emotions and they express them loudly... Well, I don't.
All these facts are not secret as I don't have any to share, but they are very much me. (Yay me!)
On principle, I won't tag any specific person (the curse won't work on me, G), but I recommend the first 12 commenters to take up the tag. (By saying that, I have killed the comments section of this post!)
Nothing to read here... Shoo! *attempts girlish wave of hand*
First of all you need to be applauded for taking up this tag for it seems most men are shying away from it.
ReplyDeleteAnd secondly reading that felt good..somehow. Atleast there are some men in this world who do not consider us mysterious beings. :P
Ahh, thanks, you made me wonder... Is taking up this tag the 11th Sin?
ReplyDeleteI thought the comments were sealed? I am glad you didn't do that!!!I was great to read this tag - and pink shirts don't scare you? I am not surprised, I once blogged about this too :)
ReplyDeleteLOL yeah taking up this tag could be the 11th sin :)
ReplyDeleteThanks, the comments are sealed only in spirit... Pink shirts would have scared me were I not immunized by my mother.
ReplyDeleteHai!
ReplyDeleteNice to know about you! :~)
Social obligation? It is always your choice no matter what.
Hey, this is knowing only about a specific side of me... anyway, yes, the choice is mine, and I prefer to accompany them as it decreases their perceived gap between them and me and that is useful to me in socializing.
ReplyDeletePhew glad that you didn't post about Sanely behaviour and asked the first 12 commentators to take up the tag, coz in that case I would have to heartbreakingly give up commenting
ReplyDeleteI wonder why men have it sewed into their brains like a buttons that pink doesn't look good on them? Me likes men in pink ;)
Lolz at "forget it" I think the woman in your life can make you dance to her tunes if she can master this art of saying "Forget it" and get your undivided attention all the time.
Hi5 from one sinner to another.
you only do this to try to get chicks
ReplyDeleteur a pussy in real life
Oh, you are a sinner alright! Stffed dog and the Harry potter and Twilight series intriue me more than the rest! :D
ReplyDeleteBut the curse might work on you as the pink turns fluorescent and brighter! :P
@Sakshi: Even since before I wore it, I never hated pink because it was wussy or something, it was just personal choice that I find it too mild for my tastes... Hi5!
ReplyDelete@Anon: Ooh! My secret is out! Now I will never get chicks any more! ... *sniff sniff* By the way, what's that smoky odour?
@Guria: Harry Potter is a pretty good piece of literature from a gender-neutral point of view, why wouldn't I like it? And the Twilight Series is appreciable even if only for the way it captures feminine imagination... The stuffed dog, as I said, there's a story behind that.
Fluorescent? Ugh! Don't threaten me like that! I already have takers of the tag! See?
I think not pointing this out would be a sin so here goes, Twilight sure does capture "feminine imagination" but only a very limited aspect of it and that too of a certain age.
DeleteI hold the opinion that after some years of exposure to mechanisms of desire, one starts questioning things, even if on a very basic level, thus the shackles of socially approved and imposed conventions of desiring and being desired starts unraveling.
Twilight, I think is very much of a failed journey into the land of teenage obsession, desiring the unknown and the monstrous and it makes an absolute hash of it and a ridicule of itself. I wouldn't term it as "feminine imagination", rather, a woman's perception of what "feminine imagination" means.
Thank you.
And of course, you're welcome. :p
owww...cool one...was fun reading it...and i think there are other characteristics too. ...but you havnt mentioned them...
ReplyDeleteYeah... Not everything's for everyone.
ReplyDeleteHey harry potter many guys read...twilight many guys tried to read but couldn't complete..so kudos to your strength of mind there... :D
ReplyDeleteand many times we men think we understand women only to be taken completely by surprise the next.. :P
Heh, you're right, the last few volumes were a bit tough to digest...
ReplyDeleteWell, I did say 'often' didn't I?
Nice one!
ReplyDeleteit's fun to make fun of guys who wear pink! but to be frank pink and black combo looks good on few men(my dad =))
Wow! on #3!
Lol on #7 :P don't all guys feel and tell that? :P
Black is the only colour I've worn with pink...
ReplyDelete#3 is so probably because I was never forbidden to try them.
for #7, experience tells me otherwise.
Hey! Long time since I've come here. Do I see a change of template??
ReplyDeletePink shirts are really okay but the shades matter so much. There are some shades of pink I don't like to see ANYONE wearing. Man or woman.
Cooking-impressive.
Is the stuffed dog dark brown and from big bazaar?
I agree that the movies are crap. Maybe you'll enjoy this-
http://theoatmeal.com/story/twilight
Haha Yay you! =D
LOL @ Nothing to read here... Shoo! *attempts girlish wave of hand*
A nice read, as always.
Nope, no change of template, maybe a tiny bit of reordering. And yeah, been long.
ReplyDeleteOh I know... fluorescent to start with...
No, it's cream/light brown from a gift shop. And extremely fluffy.
Yeah, read that oatmeal story before, pretty much agree to that. As I said, the only part I could appreciate about it was how it captures the female imagination...
:D
Thanks.
Wow.. U r a Brave Man Indeed :) Admitting all those facts is also a Sin Against Gender Stereotype I would say..
ReplyDeleteGood one.. 2.. Great.. that makes a man self sufficient.
10.. Men just appear to have simple psyches.. but no one knows..
Oh, thanks, brave or
ReplyDeleteAbout 2... that was the intention of my parents when they taught me all that.
And 10, I guess we men know ;)
@2: Good skill to have- from someone who can't cook to save her life! I shall call you to cook someday when am starving!
